There may be some who question where God is in the strange times we are currently living in. Doesn’t He care about what’s happening in the world? Isn’t He at least interested in His own people?
The following is one of my favorite Psalms, and it answers all those questions and many more! God is intimately aware of what is happening to His people, because He cares immensely about what happens to us and the following scriptures prove that to be true. People often ask me, “Ken you always say God loves us immensely and intensely…how do you know”? This Psalm says it’s so, and I hope as you read it yourself today it encourages you as much as it does me.
Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18 (NLT) 1 O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. 2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. 3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!
…13You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! 18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

We can take great confidence in a God so wonderful! Were you aware that the God of all creation was so intently interested in you? Just one part of all of His endless creation. Have you ever considered that He cares whether you are home or away, so much so that He knows when you sit down or when you stand up? A God who cares to know that much about you and me must love us intensely and immensely. The world may want us to believe that so much is left up to chance but The God of all creation here speaks of how He lovingly created each of us…on purpose…and with great intent. Finally, He lets us know how numerous His adoring thoughts of you and of me are…greater than all the grains of sand to be found on the planet!

Take heart! The God of Heavens Armies (one of my favorite names of God) knows all about what is going on in this old world right now…and He is watching over you and me intently. Does that mean we will escape all trouble? No, but it does mean trouble will never come but that He hasn’t looked it over and decided He can use it for our ultimate good because He loves us so intensely and immensely. Remember…we may not have a clue about what new thing may be coming tomorrow…but none of it will catch God by surprise…and you can be sure that He has already considered how to use it for your best…because if you didn’t know it before reading this Psalm you should by now…you are the apple of His eye!
